Maui police responded to a Kihei residence for a reported stabbing at about 2 p.m. Sunday and found an unresponsive 64-year-old man inside the home.

According to police, the man suffered what appeared to be stab wounds. Despite life-saving measures, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Police said they also found a 36-year-old man from Kihei on the property, and he was taken into police custody after officers “issued commands and utilized less-lethal force.”

The 36-year-old man was taken to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for evaluation.

The investigation remains ongoing. Police said they are investigating the incident as a second-degree murder case.
