AAA Hawaii: Gas prices mostly flat; Kahului holds at $5.67
Gas prices in Hawaii were largely unchanged over the past week, according to AAA Hawaii’s Weekend Gas Watch, while Lihue set a new record at $5.98.
In Kahului, the average price for regular was $5.67, unchanged from last week and $1.17 higher than a year ago. The current price remains below the record of $5.81 set in July 2022.
The statewide average held at $5.65, up $1.14 from a year ago. The national average is $4.03, down 6 cents from last week but 86 cents higher than a year ago.
Hawaii, California and Washington are the only states with average gas prices above $5. California’s average is $5.84, while Washington’s is $5.39.
In Honolulu, the average price is $5.62, unchanged from last week. Hilo’s average is $5.64, also unchanged. In Lihue, the average rose 2 cents to $5.98, a new record.
“Average pump prices in Honolulu and statewide set new records earlier this week, but prices have edged down slightly,” said Kandace Redd, AAA Hawaii spokesperson. “As long as global oil supply issues continue, Hawaii gas prices are likely to remain volatile.”
