Both lanes of South Kihei Road will reopen during nonworking hours following significant progress in repair work.

South Kihei Road has been closed from Ohukai Road to Kulanihakoi Street since last week.

With the road reopening during nonworking hours, it will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays and Saturday. Weather permitting, the work to fix damage from two kona storms in March is expected to continue through June 20.

Only local access will be allowed during working hours. Through traffic should expect delays and follow detour signs via Ohukai Road, Kenolio Road, Kaonoulu Street, Piilani Highway and Kulanihakoi Street.

This second phase of work is required so crews can fix storm-related washouts and road damage.

The first phase, which addressed work from South Kihei Road to North Kihei Road and Ohukai Road, has been completed.
