Flooding reported Tuesday night in East Maui
Areas in East Maui experienced flooding Tuesday night as a new kona low storm approached the state.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu issued a flash flood warning for Maui after radar around 7 p.m. Tuesday indicated persistent, heavy rain between Hana and Hamoa. The NWS extended the warning until after midnight and said it could last longer.
According to the Maui Emergency Management Agency, rain was falling at a rate of 2 to 4 inches per hour with the heaviest rainfall along the slopes of East Maui.
Maui County officials are continuing to urge residents to prepare for a third storm that’s anticipated to bring heavy rainfall to Maui County.
