Gas prices in Kahului jump compared to last month
Gas prices in Kahului have surged over the past month, mirroring a statewide increase tied to rising global oil costs.
According to AAA Hawaii, the average price for regular unleaded in Kahului was $5.61 per gallon as of April 2, up 15 cents from last week, $1.07 higher than a month ago and more than a dollar above last year’s price.
Statewide, the average price reached $5.50 per gallon, while the national average stood at $4.08. AAA Hawaii said ongoing conflict in Iran, rising crude oil prices and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz are driving the increases.
AAA Hawaii spokesperson Kandace Redd encouraged drivers to compare prices, use fuel apps and practice fuel-efficient habits as prices continue to fluctuate.
