IRS gives storm-affected residents, businesses extension on taxes

The IRS has approved Gov. Josh Green’s request for federal tax relief for Hawaii residents and businesses affected by the kona low storms that began March 10.

Residents and business owners now have until July 8, 2026, to file federal tax returns and make tax payments that were originally due on or after March 10.

“I am pleased and grateful that our request for a federal disaster declaration could also bring relief to Hawaii taxpayers,” Green said.

The relief applies to individual income tax returns, certain business tax filings, quarterly payroll filings and certain excise tax payments. The IRS will automatically identify and apply relief for taxpayers in the declared disaster area. Those located outside the covered area but affected by the disaster may request relief by contacting the IRS.

IRS information and guidance regarding the tax relief is available at tinyurl.com/2jsnzk8n.

Relief for state income tax filing and payment deadlines for eligible storm-impacted residents and businesses is being provided until July 20, 2026. For more information, go to tinyurl.com/3aw48bee.

Starting at $4.62/week.
