The Maui Bicycling League is giving away 30 e-bikes to people affected by the 2023 Maui wildfires.

According to the local nonprofit, the 2026 e-bike giveaway for Maui fire survivors program is designed to support mobility, recovery and access to transportation for individuals impacted by the fires. The program is offered in partnership with the Hawaii Bicycling League and made possible through funding from the Ulupono Initiative and the Samueli Foundation.

The league said it received 362 applications, all verified as fire survivors. Recipients were selected based on transportation needs, with a lottery component to ensure fairness in the final selection.

“E-bikes can be life-changing for transportation, health and independence — especially for those recovering from the Maui fires,” said Saman Dias, chair of the Maui Bicycling League. “We’re incredibly grateful to our funders and partners for making this possible, and we are committed to ensuring recipients feel confident, safe and supported as they begin riding.”

Recipients must sign an agreement confirming their Maui residency, agree not to resell the bicycle, and commit to participating in follow-up surveys to help evaluate the program’s impact. A list of recipients is available at tinyurl.com/5h9j4fj2.

All recipients are required to complete virtual training and in-person instruction covering proper operation, safe riding practices, laws, helmet use and general riding safety.

Distribution of the bicycles is scheduled for April 11.

Due to a technical issue with the nonprofit’s Google Form, email addresses were not captured from applicants. Those who applied and would like to stay informed about future opportunities are asked to fill out a form at tinyurl.com/52hcyjzy.

Starting at $4.62/week.
