Landon Oshita of Maui High leads the way among the boys golfers with a 71 after the first round of the Maui Interscholastic League Championships on April 16.

Among the girls MIL golfers, Maui Prep’s Sacha Salem and Ava Kawahara are atop the leaderboard at 73 each. Behind them are Tehya Chumley of Maui Prep and Naiya Hamasaki of Kamehameha Maui at 75.

The individual MIL Championships at Maui Nui Golf Club are being decided after the Baldwin boys and Maui Prep girls won team titles on April 11 at Waiehu Municipal Golf Course.

During the team championships, the Baldwin boys edged out Maui High by a stroke as the contest came down to the last putt on the final hole. At the same time, the Maui Prep girls earned their third straight MIL team title.

The individual championships will continue April 24 and 25.

Close behind Oshita is Lakota Lee of Kihei Charter, who shot an opening-round 73. Baldwin’s Liam Lopez and Kihei Charter’s Elvis Brumbaugh are tied at 78.

After the individual MIL Championships, the Hawaii High School Athletic Association State Championships will be May 5-6 for the girls and May 12-13 for the boys at Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course on Oahu. The state tournament will include 15 boys and 11 girls from the MIL.
