Authorities are investigating a fatal dog attack that happened Tuesday on Molokai.

According to Maui police, Sylvester Apiki, 69, of Kaunakakai died in the attack. Police said officers were dispatched to a Hoomalu Drive residence at approximately noon Tuesday for unresponsive man stemming from a dog attack.

Upon their arrival, officers found Apiki and began performing life-saving measures until fire and medic personnel arrived. However, those measures were unsuccessful.

Police said the dog was euthanized in accordance with the Hawaii Revised Statutes relating to dangerous dogs.

The preliminary investigation reveals no signs of foul play. The investigation remains ongoing.
