Registration open for Ahupua‘a Stewards program on Maui
Hawaii Land Trust is accepting applications for the sixth year of its Ahupua’a Stewards Leadership Program for Maui high school students ages 16-18.
The free summer program, offered in partnership with the University of Hawaii Maui College and supported by Kamehameha Schools, focuses on leadership development, applied learning and mentorship rooted in ahupua’a systems and ʻāina-based education.
The program runs June 9 through July 16, with classes at the UH Maui College Kahului campus and field trips to conservation sites across Maui, including Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge and Haleakala Ranch. Students meet Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with transportation provided for field trips. Participants receive full tuition coverage and a $1,000 stipend upon completion.
