Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset to host work day in Kula
The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset, in coordination with Maui’s nine Rotary clubs and Mālama Kula, will host a Rotary at Work Day on April 25, focusing on ongoing recovery and restoration efforts in Kula following the 2023 Kula Fire and recent Kona storms.
Volunteers are invited to take part in hands-on service projects including spreading wood chips for hillside stabilization and erosion control, removing invasive plants such as fireweed and young black wattle trees, and supporting native planting efforts in the burn area. Organizers say activities will be available for a range of skill levels and physical abilities.
Mālama Kula Director Kyle Ellison will lead volunteers during the workday, which is part of broader community efforts to support long-term land recovery.
Volunteers should meet at Kula Marketplace, 15-200 Haleakalā Highway, by 8:45 a.m. for carpooling to work sites. Service will run until about 12:30 to 1 p.m., followed by return transportation to the meeting location.
Participants are advised to wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, closed-toe shoes, and sun protection. They should bring water, snacks, a hat and sunglasses. Gloves and hand tools will be provided, though volunteers may bring their own equipment if preferred.
After the work period, volunteers may gather for lunch at the Kula Lodge food truck.
