Community meeting to offer updates on storm recovery efforts in South Maui
Maui County officials are planning a community meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Malcolm Center to discuss recovery work from the kona low storms.
Back-to-back kona low storms in March caused significant damage, particularly to portions of South Kihei Road. Representatives from the Office of Recovery will be on hand to share details about the ongoing work and answer questions, according to Maui County Council member Tom Cook.
“We’ve heard from our community on the need for frequent and consistent updates and expected timelines for road closures,” said Cook, who holds the seat for the South Maui residency area. “Our residents, business owners, and visitors understand recovery work needs to be done, but they need to know what to expect to appropriately plan their day-to-day activities.”
The Malcolm Center is at 1305 N. Holopono St., Suite 5, in Lipoa, formerly known as the Maui Research & Technology Park. To assist with headcount, residents planning to attend are encouraged to RSVP by emailing Cook’s Office at Thomas.Cook@mauicounty.us.
