The Maui County Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking public input on plans for a new Lahaina community center and field house through an online virtual open house available through June 14.

The county recently launched a website allowing West Maui residents and other community members to provide feedback on the project, including ideas for site layout, potential uses for the community center and sports or activities that could be included in the field house.

“We encourage all West Maui residents and stakeholders to submit through June 14 any suggestions or insights about the new community center and field house,” Parks and Recreation Director Patrick McCall said in a statement.

The website was introduced during a May 19 community meeting in Lahaina, where attendees expressed interest in additional gathering places and sports facilities for West Maui.

The locations of the field house and community center have not been finalized, but officials said the site will be near the Lahaina Recreation Center complex.

The project team includes the Department of Parks and Recreation and consulting partner G70 International.

Plans for the field house include two regulation-size basketball courts that also could be used for other court sports. The facility also may serve as a distribution center for essential supplies during emergencies.

The community center is planned to include a commercial kitchen, meeting space for community and family gatherings, emergency shelter capabilities and office space for county staff.

The virtual open house can be accessed at lahainacommunitycenterfieldhouse.konveio.com. Additional information is available by emailing parks.dept@co.maui.hi.us.

Starting at $4.62/week.
