A man has died after a crash Thursday morning on the Kuihelani Highway.

Maui police identified the man as Victor Harris, 27, of Kahului.

The crash happened at about 6:06 a.m. Thursday near Kuihelani Highway and East Waiko Road.

According to the preliminary investigation, Harris was driving a 2015 Nissan Versa south on the highway when the Nissan failed to slow down in traffic and hit the back of a 2024 Thomas bus. The Versa became pinned underneath the bus.

Harris suffered critical injuries and was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The bus driver, a 61-year-old Haiku woman, was not injured.

Police said Harris was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The crash marked Maui County’s second traffic fatality of 2026, compared with nine at the same time last year.
