Maui High sweeps MIL judo team titles

Maui High won the boys and girls team titles at the Maui Interscholastic League Judo Championships on Saturday at Kamehameha Schools Maui.
The Sabers boys have been a force throughout the season, and Brody Reyes (114), Evan Dela Cruz (121), Andy Oviedo (178), Alika Kish (198) and Coen Perriera (220) all secured individual titles for the boys, who captured the team title with 158 points.
Kamehameha Maui was second with 126 team points, while King Kekaulike finished third and Baldwin was fourth.
While Maui High showed strong balance across the middle and upper weights, Kamehameha Maui proved it too is dangerous, especially in the lighter and mid weights. Mason Kurokawa (108), Aaron Ikehara (132), Pono Hodges (145) and Ki’Aikale’A Kalipi (161) all won first-place honors in their weight classes for Kamehameha Maui.
The Sabers girls also won the team title with 150 points, while Kamehameha Maui finished second, King Kekaulike was third and Baldwin was fourth.
The girls from Maui High who won individual titles included Chezarey Barut (109), Kristin Camit (129), Lauren Imamura (139), Shaylee Watari (154), Madelein Milliet (172) and Kellee Yi (220).

While the Maui High girls dominated with consistent placement across the brackets, King Kekaulike saw three girls win individual titles, including Abigail Tamayose (98), Kaiya Hoopai Sylva (115) and Ariana Macanas (122).
The top two competitors from the MIL in each weight class qualified for the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Judo State Championships on Saturday at the Neal Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu.
