MPD warns drivers to buckle up
The Maui Police Department is collaborating with law enforcement nationwide to increase seat belt and child safety seat use in Maui County.
From May 11 to May 31, Maui police will participate in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Click It or Ticket” campaign. Maui police said drivers can expect to see heightened traffic enforcement and the use of unmarked patrol vehicles to enforce seat belt and child passenger restraint laws.
“We want our community to understand that this campaign is not about issuing citations, it’s about saving lives,” Lt. Kenneth Kihata said. “Something as simple as wearing a seatbelt or properly securing a child in a safety seat can make the difference between life and death in a crash.”
