The Office of Hawaiian Affairs has launched a disaster assistance program that will provide more than $1 million in financial aid to eligible Native Hawaiian families impacted by the March kona low storms.
Applications are open for the OHA March 2026 Kona Low General Disaster Assistance Program and will be administered by the Hawaiian Council. Eligible homeowners may receive grants of up to $15,000, while eligible renters may receive up to $7,500.
The program is available to Native Hawaiian residents of Hawaii whose primary residences sustained major damage or were destroyed during the storms. Applications may be submitted online at kakoomai.org/oha or in person at designated sites on Oahu, Maui and Molokai. Application assistance also will be available.
According to an initial needs assessment by the Hawaiian Council, more than 86% of respondents reported having no flood insurance, while nearly 39% of Native Hawaiian respondents said their homes were destroyed or sustained major damage.
