Paid parking at the Baldwin Home parking lot in Lahaina will resume May 18, with revenue supporting restoration efforts at Lahaina historic sites.
The Lahaina Restoration Foundation said the parking lot remained free following the 2023 Lahaina wildfire to help meet emergency and recovery needs in the community. According to the foundation, parking revenue will help fund preservation and rebuilding efforts at eight historic sites under its stewardship as recovery work continues.
“This small step helps us continue the long journey of restoring Lahaina’s historic places,” Theo Morrison said in a news release. “Parking revenues play an essential role in helping us care for these sites and ensure that Lahaina’s history and sense of place are restored and preserved for future generations.”
The Baldwin Home parking lot is owned and operated by the Lahaina Restoration Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in 1962 that oversees Lahaina historic and cultural sites.
Free public parking remains available at nearby Maui County lots, including the Papelekane Street parking area near the harbor, the Prison Street-Front Street lot and the Shaw Street-Front Street lot.
