Former members of Sing Out Maui are being invited to a reunion Aug. 16 at the Maui Beach Hotel.
Founded in the mid-1960s by the late Ron Gonsalves, Sing Out Maui grew from a St. Anthony School project into a community choral group featuring middle and high school students from public and private schools across Maui. The group performed at local events, hotels, aboard cruise ships and during Hawaii’s 10th anniversary of statehood celebration in 1969.
Organizers said several former members later joined the international Up With People program, which inspired the creation of Sing Out Maui. Sing Out Maui had its last reunion in 1984 at the then Maui Inter-Continental Hotel in Wailea.
The upcoming reunion is being organized by former members including Art Fillazar, Lolita Sevilla Eugenio, Rose Bulusan Johnson, Linda Tavares Ribao, Robert Cordeiro, Brenda Souza Phillips, Donna Seabury Kailiehu, Donna Phillips Nascimento and Raymond Cabebe.
Former members, musicians, crew members and chaperones are encouraged to attend. The reservation deadline is July 24. For information, email mrfill1831@gmail.com or eugeniololita@yahoo.com.
