Five students receive Rotary scholarships

The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset has awarded five $2,500 Go for the Green scholarships to graduating seniors pursuing college studies that will benefit the environment or their communities.
Recipients were selected from West Maui, Molokai, Lanai and Hana and must attend an accredited college or university.
The scholarship winners are Leah Burns of Maui Preparatory Academy, who plans to study architectural design at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo; Spencer Chew of Lanai High School, who plans to study mechanical engineering at Oregon State University; Cora Gruber of Lahainaluna High School, who plans to study nursing at Boise State University; Tamika McLaurin of Molokai High School, who is studying exploratory health sciences/pre-nursing at the University of Hawaii at Hilo; and Finlay Royer of Maui Preparatory Academy, who plans to study nursing at Boise State University.
Funding for three of the five scholarships was provided through donations from Virendra Nath in memory of his late father, Dr. Vishwambhar Nath, and from Jim and Cathy Maxwell.
