Hale Kau Kau provided a record number of meals in May, the most in a single month in the organization’s 35-year history, according to Barry Rosenfeld, president of Hale Kau Kau.

The organization delivered 3,475 meals to kupuna and people with disabilities, an average of 112 meals per night. Hale Kau Kau also served 2,625 meals onsite in Kihei to people facing food insecurity, an average of 85 dinners per night.

Rosenfeld said the organization continues to deliver meals to the Maui Food Bank in Kahului and has agreed to provide lunch once a week to the Lahaina Resource and Recovery Center.

With community needs increasing, Hale Kau Kau is seeking more volunteers.

Kitchen helpers work three-hour shifts, while delivery drivers should plan to volunteer for about 2.5 hours. The organization is asking people to consider volunteering two to four times a month.
