Kalaupapa National Historical Park announced Monday that Kalaupapa Saints Tours is no longer operating, leaving the park without any scheduled tours.

Kalaupapa Saints Tours is no longer operating scheduled tours after the death of Aunty Meli Watanuki, who helped establish Kalaupapa Saints Tours.

According to the Hawaii Catholic Herald, Watanuki was a pillar of St. Francis Church and a tireless worker who became a businesswoman just before her 91st birthday last year. She died at the Kalaupapa Care Home on May 17 following a short illness.

At this time, there are no park tour options. The National Park Service said it will continue to explore alternatives for visitors to experience Kalaupapa and post updates at nps.gov/kala/planyourvisit/guidedtours.htm.

Starting at $4.80/week.
