Lahaina meeting to cover evacuation plans, school rebuild and buyout program

Maui County will hold its monthly Lahaina Community Meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Lahaina Intermediate School cafeteria.

Topics will include evacuation management and wildfire mitigation, a brief update on the status of the King Kamehameha III Elementary School rebuild, Hawaiian Electric Co.’s West Maui projects, upcoming community events and updates from the county Office of Recovery.

The meeting will also include information on Lahaina Homecoming, Kuhinia Maui and the Hookumu Hou Strategic Voluntary Mitigation Buyout Program.

Representatives from several departments and agencies will be available at resource tables after a question-and-answer session. They include the county Office of Recovery, Maui Emergency Management Agency, 4LEAF, Hawaiian Electric Co., the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Hoola ia Mauiakama Disaster Long Term Recovery Group.

The Lahaina Community Meeting is held in person on the first Wednesday of each month, except holidays.

The meeting also will be livestreamed on the county’s Facebook page and broadcast on Akaku.
