Six people were injured Sunday afternoon when a second-story condominium balcony collapsed in Kihei.
According to the Maui Fire Department, firefighters responded at about 4:15 p.m. to the 2000 block of South Kihei Road after receiving reports of a structural collapse.
A second-story balcony fell, sending four people to the ground and leaving two others trapped on the structure as it came to rest on a rock wall.
Firefighters stabilized the balcony, assessed the injured and used Ladder 14’s aerial apparatus to rescue the two people who remained trapped.
The six injured individuals — four men and two women ranging in age from 34 to 53 — suffered injuries including head, neck, back and extremity pain, as well as scrapes and scratches.
Five were transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.
A portion of South Kihei Road was temporarily closed as a safety precaution.
