Two wing foilers rescued off Kihei

Two wing foilers were rescued Tuesday morning after they were unable to return to shore because of light winds, according to the Maui Fire Department.

Firefighters responded at 10:46 a.m. to an area off South Kihei Road near the Uwapo Road intersection.

The wing foilers were located by a U.S. Coast Guard vessel about 200 yards offshore and were brought back to shore by an Ocean Safety Jet Ski.

The two men, ages 66 and 67, were visitors, according to the department. Neither of them required medical attention.

Responding units included Engine 6, Rescue 10, Ocean Safety JS6 and the U.S. Coast Guard. Ocean conditions were calm and flat, with very light winds.

The incident concluded at 11:20 a.m.
