UH Maui College offering summer culinary classes

University of Hawaii Maui College's Culinary Arts Program is offering a new series of hands-on cooking classes this summer, featuring topics ranging from pastry making to grilling and kitchen fundamentals. The five-class series will be on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon in the Pā'ina Building on the University of Hawaii Maui College campus in Kahului. Each class costs $90. According to the college, the classes are designed for home cooks looking to improve their kitchen skills and learn techniques from professional chefs. The schedule includes: • June 6 -- "Pastry Made Easy: Cream Puffs & Eclairs" with Pastry Chef Hannah Stanchfield. • June 13 -- "Tacos from Scratch" with Chef Gary Johnson. • June 20 -- "Summer Grilling Essentials" with Johnson. • June 27 -- "Pastry Made Easy: Puff Pastry Basics" with Stanchfield. • July 25 -- "Kitchen Basics: Knife Skills, Stocks, Soups and Broths" with Omori.
