AG offers amnesty for delinquent charities
The Hawaii Department of the Attorney General is offering a 60-day amnesty period for charitable organizations that are delinquent under the state’s charitable solicitation law.
The amnesty period runs from July 1 through Aug. 31. Eligible organizations may correct overdue filings, pay required registration or filing fees and complete other outstanding compliance requirements. Organizations that meet the requirements by the deadline may receive a waiver of applicable late fees and penalties.
Hawaii law requires charitable organizations that solicit contributions in the state to register with the Department of the Attorney General, file annual reports and pay applicable fees.
The amnesty program does not excuse fraud, misuse of charitable assets, false statements or other substantive violations of law.
Organizations may check their status at charity.ehawaii.gov/charity/welcome.html. Questions may be directed to atg.charities@hawaii.gov or (808) 586-1480.
