Four Maui County students pursuing careers in health and social services have been named recipients of AlohaCare Foundation scholarships.
The students are Maui residents Jasmine Jackson-Richmond and Kalem Ringlen, Molokai resident Kaiya Dunnam Enos and Lanai resident Kelly Raqueno. AlohaCare awarded 12 scholarships statewide totaling $54,000.
“What you see in this year’s recipients is a genuine commitment to uplifting the health of Hawaii,” said Francoise Culley-Trotman, president of the AlohaCare Foundation Board of Directors. “They are training to become the nurses, therapists and advocates for their communities. Their dedication to serve the islands they call home is what drives our foundation’s work and we’re proud to support them.”
Jackson-Richmond is a psychology major pursuing a Master of Science degree at Grand Canyon University. She is working in community behavioral health while pursuing her degree and wants to expand mental health services through outreach and culturally grounded care for Hawaii families.
Ringlen is pursuing a Ph.D. in psychology at the University of Missouri. Ringlen is an aspiring school psychologist, focused on creating inclusive, culturally responsive school environments and plans to return to Hawaii to strengthen mental health resources in education.
Dunnam Enos is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at the University of Hawaii Hilo. She is a Molokai native with roots in community service and plans to return home after earning her nursing degree to provide high-quality care to her rural community.
Raqueno is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at Chaminade University of Honolulu.
She wants a career in nursing with the goal of becoming a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.
