Brush fire along Piilani Highway quickly contained

Firefighters put out a brush fire Tuesday evening along the Piilani Highway at Piikea Avenue in Kihei.
According to the Maui Fire Department, firefighters responded at 5:33 p.m. and found a brush fire burning on the east side of the highway.
Crews deployed hose lines and brought the blaze under control by 5:50 p.m. The fire, which burned less than half an acre, was fully extinguished by 6:30 p.m.
Northbound Piilani Highway was temporarily closed. No injuries or damage was reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
