Gov. Josh Green will sign legislation described by immigrant rights advocates as one of the nation's strongest immigrant justice laws during a ceremony July 28 at the Hawaii State Capitol.
The bill signing will be held from noon to 12:15 p.m. in the governor's office, followed by a memorial program from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Capitol Rotunda.
The memorial will honor nearly 60 people who advocates say died in immigration detention or during enforcement actions.
The Campaign for Immigrant Justice is led by the American Civil Liberties Union of Hawaii, the Hawaii Coalition for Immigrant Rights and The Legal Clinic.
State lawmakers, community leaders, advocacy organizations and invited guests are expected to attend.
