Seven people were brought to shore Tuesday after a double-hull outrigger canoe partially swamped about 200 yards offshore of South Maui, according to the Maui Fire Department.

Firefighters and ocean safety officers responded to a location near the 300 block of South Kihei Road at 8:25 a.m. and found multiple people in the water.

Ocean safety officers operating personal watercraft and a U.S. Coast Guard crew picked up two juveniles and five adults and ferried them to shore.

Other paddlers remained with the canoe to bail out water and return it to the beach.

The group included Maui residents and visitors. No injuries were reported. The incident concluded at 9:06 a.m.
