Seven people, including six juveniles, have been arrested in connection with an assault and riot July 17 at a resort pool area in Ka'anapali, according to the Maui Police Department.
Detectives made the latest arrests Tuesday, taking into custody a 14-year-old Lahaina boy on suspicion of riot and third-degree assault, a 14-year-old Lahaina girl on suspicion of riot and a 17-year-old Lahaina girl on suspicion of riot. All three were released to the custody of their parents after Family Court was notified, police said.
The arrests came one day after detectives arrested three other juveniles in connection with the same incident. A 14-year-old Lahaina boy and a 16-year-old Wailuku boy were arrested Monday on suspicion of second-degree assault and riot. A 16-year-old Lahaina boy was arrested on suspicion of riot.
Those three juveniles also were released to their parents after Family Court was notified.
A 20-year-old Makawao man had previously been arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault and was later released pending investigation.
The incident occurred July 17 at the pool area of the Kāʻanapali Aliʻi resort at 50 Nohea Kai Drive.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to gather and review information.
The department said it could not publicly discuss specific investigative actions, evidence, witness statements or other case details because of the continuing investigation.
Police also said investigators are looking into whether the incident was motivated by bias, including racial bias, or involved gang-related criminal activity.
