Three teens arrested in July 17 assault

Four people, including three teens, have been arrested in connection with an assault and riot July 17 at a resort pool area in Lahaina, according to the Maui Police Department.

Detectives arrested a 14-year-old Lahaina boy and two 16-year-old boys, one from Wailuku and one from Lahaina, on Monday. The 14-year-old and the Wailuku teen were arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault and riot, while the Lahaina teen was arrested on suspicion of riot.

All three juveniles were released to their parents after Family Court was notified, police said.

A 20-year-old Makawao man had previously been arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault and was later released pending investigation.

The incident occurred at the pool area of the Kāʻanapali Aliʻi resort at 50 Nohea Kai Drive. Police said detectives are continuing to gather and review information and are investigating whether the incident involved bias, including racial bias, or gang-related activity.
