Upcoming Rotary speakers: Roots Reborn focuses on community, culture, healing

Two people from Roots Reborn will be the Rotary Club of Kahului's featured speakers from noon to 1 p.m. July 27 at Tante's Island Cuisine at the Maui Seaside Hotel in Kahului.
The public is invited to attend the presentation highlighting the organization’s work to strengthen and uplift Maui’s communities. Representing Roots Reborn will be Annie Alvelais, director of development, and Rachel Kaulupali, outreach and events coordinator.
The pair will discuss the organization’s history, mission and vision, and attendees will learn more about Roots Reborn’s Día de los Muertos Fundraiser on Oct. 24 at the J. Walter Cameron Center.
Originally from Mexico and raised in a border town, Alvelais has more than a decade of experience in nonprofit leadership, operations and development. A graduate of Louisiana State University, Alvelais spent five years working alongside disaster-affected communities around the world. Her passion for amplifying marginalized voices and celebrating the rich cultures of Latin America continues to guide her work with Roots Reborn.

Kaulupali is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools Maui with a background in hospitality, event planning and grassroots mutual aid. Following the Maui wildfires, Kaulupali became involved in supporting local families through mutual aid efforts. At Roots Reborn, she creates opportunities for cultural celebration, outreach and meaningful connection.
