The Maui County Office of Recovery will launch two competitive grant programs to support workforce development and public services for residents recovering from the 2023 Maui wildfires.
The funding opportunities, offered through the county’s Hoʻokumu Hou program, are open to nonprofit organizations and government agencies providing recovery-related services to wildfire-impacted communities.
A virtual applicant information session will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 6 to explain eligibility requirements, the application process and available funding. Registration is available at bit.ly/0806infosession. A recording of the session and presentation materials will also be posted on the Hoʻokumu Hou website.
Notices of Funding Availability for both programs will be released Aug. 10. Questions from applicants will be accepted through Aug. 25, with responses posted by Sept. 9. Applications are due Sept. 24.
The Hoʻokumu Hou Economic Revitalization Ka 'Imi 'Ike Program will fund new or expanded workforce development initiatives, including job training, credentialing, employment readiness, job placement and participant support services.
The Hoʻokumu Hou Public Services Program will support new or expanded recovery services, including health and behavioral health programs, disaster case management, child care, transportation assistance, homelessness outreach and other services that help individuals and families recover from the wildfires.
The grants are funded through the county’s Hoʻokumu Hou initiative, which administers Maui’s share of $1.6 billion in federal Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery funding provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development after the 2023 Maui wildfires.
