Emma Fardne Sharpe Hula Festival coming Aug. 21-22

Hosted at the Royal Lahaina Resort and celebrating 40 years of Mele Hawai'i, the Emma Fardne Sharpe Hula Festival will take place Aug. 21-22.

The festival will be from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Aug. 21 and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 22. Live performances will include 2025 Carmen Hulu Lindsey Leo Ha'iha'i Falsetto Champion Namaka Pau'ole and Ho'okena. Guests will be invited to support local artisans and companies through island-inspired arts and cuisines. Hula dancing and community gatherings will take place alongside activities for children on Aug. 22.

Complimentary workshops include author and Kumu Hula Cody Pueo Pata featuring his book, "'Ohuʻohu nā Mauna o ʻEʻeka: Place Names of Maui Komohana" at 10:30 a.m, a ukulele workshop with Jason Jerome of Lahaina Music at 12:30 p.m.; a Hula workshop with Kumu Hula Kamaka Kukona, teaching the beloved mele "Lahainaluna" from his album Kahekeonāpua at 2 p.m.
