Home destroyed in Thursday fire

Three residents were displaced after a fire destroyed a home Thursday morning along Kahekili Highway.
According to the Maui Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched at 8:34 a.m. to the 3200 block of Kahekili Highway in the area of the former Mendes Ranch, where they found a single-story home fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters deployed hose lines to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby brush. The department said the narrow, unpaved driveway could only be accessed by off-road capable fire apparatus.
The fire was brought under control at 9:50 a.m. and fully extinguished by noon.
No injuries were reported, but three residents were displaced. The home was declared a total loss.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
