Public schools on Maui, Molokai and Lanai will reopen to students and employees Tuesday following Hurricane Lala, the Hawaii State Department of Education announced Monday night.
The department said school leaders, facilities personnel and other designated employees assessed campuses Monday, restored operations and prepared facilities for the return of students and staff. Power and other utility services have gradually been restored at affected schools.
All state and complex area offices also will reopen Tuesday.
Most public schools statewide will resume normal operations, although some campuses on Oahu and Hawaii Island will remain closed. Affected families and employees are being notified directly.
