Maui County’s Department of Transportation will hold four community meetings in September to gather public input on ferry service between Maui, Lanai and eventually Molokai.
The meetings are part of the county’s ongoing Ferry Program and will help prepare for a state-required environmental assessment examining continued service to Lanai, potential vessel acquisition and expanded service to Molokai.
The meetings are scheduled for 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Velma McWayne Santos Community Center in Wailuku; 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Lahaina Civic Center; 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Mitchell Pauʻole Community Center on Molokai; and 11 a.m. to noon Sept. 19 at the Lanai Senior Center.
Residents are encouraged to participate and provide input on future ferry service. The environmental assessment will examine potential environmental, cultural and socioeconomic impacts and help the county and partner agencies seek funding for expanded ferry service throughout Maui Nui.
A feasibility study completed in March 2025 found that a county-owned ferry system is possible. The environmental study is expected to continue through 2027.
Residents unable to attend may access recordings of the meetings. Comments and suggestions, as well as requests for auxiliary aids or other accommodations, may be submitted to public.transit@mauicounty.gov.
