Maui police launch impaired-driving campaign

1 min read

Starting this week, the Maui Police Department has increased impaired-driving enforcement as part of the national "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign.

The enforcement period will continue through Labor Day, Sept. 7. Police said motorists can expect a zero-tolerance approach to impaired driving as officers work to reduce crashes and encourage compliance with traffic laws.

The department's DUI Task Force is reminding people who plan to drink to arrange transportation before going out. Options include selecting a sober driver, using a car service or taxi, or calling a sober friend or family member.

Drivers also are encouraged to prevent friends or relatives who may be impaired from getting behind the wheel and to help them arrange safe transportation.

Anyone who sees a suspected impaired driver on the road should contact the Maui Police Department.
