Pacific Permanente Group has added board-certified gastroenterologist Dr. Kimya Nguyen to its Maui team, expanding specialty digestive health care for local patients.

Nguyen will provide inpatient and outpatient care at Maui Memorial Medical Center and the Maui Memorial Medical Center Outpatient Clinic.

She earned her medical degree from the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed an internal medicine residency at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She later completed a gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Michigan Health System, where she also received advanced training in clinical and translational research.

Nguyen most recently worked with the Veterans Affairs Pacific Islands Health Care System and served as a gastroenterology hospitalist and medical director of gastroenterology and endoscopy services at Providence Milwaukie Hospital in Oregon.

"Dr. Nguyen's breadth of clinical experience, academic accomplishments, and commitment to compassionate care make her an outstanding addition to our physician team," said Dr. Chris Martin, assistant area medical director of Pacific Permanente Group, in a news release. "She will play an important role in expanding access to high-quality gastroenterology services for patients on Maui."

Pacific Permanente Group provides specialty care in areas including cardiology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, pulmonology, urology and critical care medicine.
