Two women were killed and four other people were injured Saturday night in a UTV crash near Halawa Valley Park on Molokai, according to the Maui Police Department.
Dispatch received a report of an overturned Polaris UTV at about 10:57 p.m. near mile post 28 on Kamehameha V Highway.
Police said a 20-year-old Kaunakakai woman was driving the UTV with five passengers on a dirt roadway when she entered the paved portion of Kamehameha V Highway and veered toward the south shoulder.
The driver swerved and overcorrected, causing the UTV to lift, police said. She attempted to regain control but crossed the roadway and struck a large tree stump on the north shoulder.
All six occupants were ejected from the UTV.
The driver and a 19-year-old Kaunakakai woman who was riding in the front passenger seat died at the scene.
The four other passengers, all from Kaunakakai, were transported to Molokai General Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. They included two females, ages 16 and 17, and two males, ages 20 and 22.
Police said none of the occupants were wearing helmets or seat belts at the time of the crash. Alcohol and speed are considered factors in the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.
The deaths mark Maui County's sixth and seventh traffic fatalities of 2026, compared with 12 at the same time last year.
