West Maui keiki invited to inaugural Ka‘anapali fishing tournament

West Maui children ages 5 to 15 are invited to participate in the inaugural Kā'anapali Keiki Fishing Tournament End of Summer Bash on Aug. 22 at the Kā'anapali Golf Courses.

The free event, hosted by the Pilikahakai Foundation in partnership with the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Hawai'i -- Maui Chapter, will feature a catch-and-release fishing tournament along with outdoor recreation and educational activities promoting mālama ʻāina, or caring for the land.

The event will run from 8 to 11 a.m., with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. Participants will have opportunities to win prizes and take part in family activities intended to bring West Maui families together before the start of the new school year.

The tournament is part of the Pilikahakai Foundation's efforts to promote environmental stewardship, cultural preservation and community engagement in West Maui.

Maui Eldorado, UFO Parasail, the Kā'anapali Operations Association, Kā'anapali Golf Course and West Maui Sports & Fishing Supply are among the businesses and organizations supporting the event. Sponsors and partners are providing prizes, fishing equipment, volunteers, refreshments and other resources to keep the tournament free for families.

Parents or legal guardians must register participating children by Aug. 16.
