About 10,000 Hawaiian Electric customers in West Maui were without power Sunday night.
Hawaiian Electric said power in West Maui might not be restored until around noon Monday.
The utility said hazardous conditions were preventing helicopters from flying over a ridge above Papalaua Wayside Park to assess possible damage to transmission lines.
Aerial inspections are scheduled to begin at first light Monday, as soon as flights can be conducted safely.
Elsewhere on Maui, Hawaiian Electric proactively shut off power in Pukalani Sunday afternoon because high winds and dry conditions posed an immediate wildfire threat. Power was restored around 4:30 p.m. after conditions improved.
About 400 customers in Haiku and Upcountry also remained without power Sunday evening, with service to most expected to be restored later Sunday night.
The utility said its Public Safety Power Shutoff watch remains in effect as a wind advisory continues through Monday morning. Additional areas could have power shut off proactively if wildfire-risk thresholds are reached.
