The Baldwin Bears won their third straight Maui Interscholastic League football game, defeating Kamehameha Maui 16-6 on Sept. 4 at Kamehameha Maui.
The loss put the Warriors' record at 2-1 against MIL opponents, while the Bears improved to 3-0.
During the game, Baldwin outgained Kamehameha Maui 399-257 in total offense, according to ScoringLive.com.
Kamehameha Maui struck first on a nine-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ryder De Silva to Xander Pagan at 4:12 in the first quarter. The two-point conversion failed, and the Warriors led 6-0.
Baldwin didn't wait long to respond, though, and Bears running back Brayden Viloria carried the ball into the end zone on a four-yard run at 2:58 in the first quarter. Zyler Yoshida kicked the extra point to give the Bears a one-point lead.
In the third quarter, Yoshida gave the Bears a little breathing room with a successful 28-yard field goal, making the score 10-6. Baldwin running back Malu Rivera sealed the final with a 36-yard touchdown run at 8:59 in the fourth quarter.
Leading the Bears, Viloria rushed for 185 yards on 28 carries, in addition to recording two receptions for five yards. Rivera also carried the ball six times for 73 yards.
Baldwin quarterback Devin Inokuma led the Bears’ aerial attack, going 10-for-24 with 132 passing yards and no interceptions. Receiver Grayson Ruess caught four of those passes for 76 yards, and Jarek Giron hauled in two for 36 yards.
De Silva was 8-for-26 with 86 yards passing and five carries for 46 yards rushing for the Warriors. Raiden Jakubczak led Kamehameha Maui in receiving yardage with two catches for 43 yards.
Pagan carried the ball 19 times for 67 yards and had two receptions for seven yards. Kaikea Hueu had three carries for 62 yards.
The Warriors will face Maui High on Sept. 12.
Up next, Baldwin is scheduled to play Kulanihakoi. However, the Rays forfeited their last game Aug. 28 against King Kekaulike due to a lack of players.
