Maui County officials were urging residents to prepare for prolonged power outages and intermittent cellular service in parts of the county overnight Sunday and into Monday.
West Maui power outages are expected to continue until around noon Monday, according to Hawaiian Electric.
Residents who lose cellular or internet service are encouraged to use battery-powered or hand-crank radios for emergency information. Updates are available on KPOA 92.9 and 93.5 FM; KJKS 99.3 and 99.9 FM; KJMD 107.1 and 98.3 FM; KLHI 101.7 and 92.5 FM; KMVI 900 AM and 102.5 FM; and KNUI 550 AM and 106.1 FM.
Residents should continue to call 911 for emergencies. West Maui residents who cannot reach 911 because of cellular outages can go to the Lahaina Police Station at 1850 Honoapiilani Highway for emergency assistance and resources.
Charging stations and Starlink satellite internet service are available at the Lahaina Civic Center, 1840 Honoapiilani Highway, and the Mayor Hannibal Tavares Community Center meeting room, 91 Pukalani St. Residents should bring their own charging cables and adapters.
The county also encouraged residents to conserve cellphone batteries, use text messaging when cellular networks are congested and check on family members, neighbors and others who may need assistance.
The Maui Emergency Management Agency remains fully activated. Residents can sign up for emergency alerts at mauicounty.gov/MEMA.
