About 12,370 Hawaiian Electric customers in the West Maui and Upcountry areas were without power Sunday morning due to strong winds from Hurricane Nolo.
As of 6 a.m., an additional 3,900 customers were without power on the windward side of Oahu due to the storm.
Hawaiian Electric reported that the outages were not part of the company’s Public Safety Power Shutoff program. Hawaiian Electric said crews were standing by to begin inspections at first light as the first step in the restoration process.
Hawaiian Electric is monitoring high winds and dry conditions across its service territories, which may lead to an increased risk of wildfires.
