A public hearing on proposed changes to the Maui Island Plan and Wailuku-Kahului Community Plan for the Hoʻonani Village mixed-use development is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept, 3, online and in the Maui County Council Chamber, according to County Council member Tamara Paltin.
The proposed development at Hansen and Pulehu roads would include 1,608 multifamily housing units, including 800 affordable units, along with commercial, recreational and light-industrial uses.
The council's Disaster Recovery, International Affairs and Planning Committee, which Paltin chairs, recommended passage of Bills 163 and 164 on first reading. A public hearing is required before the measures can receive a second and final reading.
Paltin said the hearing will be limited to accepting testimony in person, online or in writing. No votes will be taken. For more information, call the Office of Council Services at (808) 270-7664.
"I encourage residents to participate in the public hearing so the council can hear from the community as it considers this significant change," Paltin said. "Our goal is dignified, affordable housing, and the community's input is a critical step in our decision-making process."
