The Kahului Post Office will host a passport fair from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 26, offering additional appointments for new passport and passport card applications.
The event at 138 S. Puunene Ave. will include application acceptance, passport photos and assistance from certified U.S. Postal Service passport clerks. Lunch will be from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. A $15 fee will be charged for passport photos.
Applicants should schedule an appointment at usps.com/passport and arrive early. A cutoff time may be implemented if wait times exceed the event hours.
To speed processing, applicants should complete Form DS-11 in advance but leave it unsigned. They should bring proof of U.S. citizenship, photo identification, photocopies of each document and separate payments for U.S. Department of State and USPS fees. The post office accepts checks, debit cards and cash.
Acceptable proof of citizenship includes a certified birth certificate, naturalization or citizenship certificate, or an expired passport. A photocopy of identification, front and back, is required; the post office will provide copies for $1 each.
Parents or guardians applying for a passport for a child under 16 generally must provide authorization. Both parents or guardians should accompany the child when applying.
