Lanai hunters urged to bring supplies amid harbor disruption

Hunters traveling to Lanai for the remainder of the 2026 mouflon sheep season are being asked to bring their own food, drinking water and other essential supplies following damage caused by Hurricane Lowell.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources said bringing personal supplies will help reduce demand on Lanai businesses and preserve available resources for residents.
Hurricane Lowell damaged Kaumalapau Harbor and disrupted supply deliveries to the island. The harbor is expected to resume operations Sunday while repairs continue, but the timeline for regular supply deliveries remained uncertain Friday, according to the department.
Hunters renting vehicles are also being strongly encouraged to contact their rental providers before traveling to confirm whether there are fuel-related restrictions.
"Forestry and Wildlife staff appreciate the cooperation and consideration of hunters as they participate in the remainder of the Lanai Mouflon Sheep season," said Jason Omick, wildlife program manager for the state Division of Forestry and Wildlife. "We encourage hunters to come prepared and be mindful and respectful of the circumstances the Lanai community is experiencing."

The department said hunting activities will continue as scheduled, subject to hunting regulations and area conditions. Hunters are encouraged to monitor department announcements for information that could affect hunting or access to Lanai.
